hi Bill, sorry to jump in (with nothing helpful) but I have almost
identical symptoms and have been working with tech support for nearly 3
months now. we've tried all sorts of uninstalls, registry cleans,
reinstalls of nightly builds but so far no luck. (I run XP too). If we
get a fix, I'll ke
No ... in fact what I did was to first clear all the event logs, and
then tried to start slimserver. What I posted were the only events
noted under Application and System. slimserverMySql was getting start
and stop signals, but slimserver was not posting anything.

I don't know what to do to uninstall more completely than I have. I
used Control Panel first to uninstall slimserver. Then I searched the
registry for slimserver references and deleted them before massaging it
with Registry Mechanic. I deleted Program Files\slimserver directory.

Sounds to me that you may not have completely deleted the previous
installation.

Michael, there is nothing listening on port 9000.
No, I am not running Windows Media Player. I don't share songs.
Jim, that would make sense - but I think we know the reason for the
error at this point. Just don't know why slimserver comes to that
conclusion. I had done a total new install - h

With SlimServer 6.5 and lower, don't you have to specify a log file

Are you by chance running Windows Media Player with UPnP server (don't know its
name, sorry), sharing songs?
Run "netstat -anb" in a command window - is there something listening on port
9000?

Now we are getting somewhere. Thanks for the idea of running slim.exe

Hmm... not that powerful after all :-).
Ok, try running slimserver from the command line: "slim.exe" What are the last
few lines you see when it crashes?

I have used that powerful search facility. There is no slimserver.log
file in any folder, hidden, system or otherwise, on any drive on my
computer. I am still looking for a way to figure out why slimserver is
not starting.

Michael,
Thanks for your quick response. I did a search for slimserver.log.
In fact, under Program Files\slimserver there seem to be no *.log files
at all. Where do I look?
I have tried two different versions of slimserver. 6.5.4 and the
daily of 6.5.5.

Slimserver has been working fine on my XP machine until this past week.
I have loaded some other software (TurboTax) and have put on the latest
Microsoft patches - and Slimserver stopped working. I completely
uninstalled slimserver, and even cleaned the registry of references to
it. I than inst
Hi,
I've happily running and updating versions of Slimserver since the 5.X
days on my Mandrake Linux server with no problem. Today I downloaded
and installed 6.3 using the same process as always. After I install, I

I've been experiencing a problem with SlimServer not starting on my

If it isn't obviously scanning your collection, just remove and re-install
it again. Sounds odd, but this has helped others...
