I start softsqueeze and is seems to start, but I get a tiny browser

I connect, but softsqueeze goes beserk, constantly (apparently) losing

"Berserk" is not a very helpful description of what is happening. More
details such as
- Whether anything appears on Softsqueeze disply
- Can you move through menus ?
- Can you play any music ?
- Does the problem happen randomly or after some sequence or perhaps a
time limit ?

Java is 1.6_20
When connected via the tunnel, the log keeps saying lost contact with
Slim server, so SoftSqueeze displays its correct screen, then lost

3.7 doesn't work reliably with 7.3 onwards.
You need 3.8 or 3.9b1 (available using though plugins)

There is nothing on the plugins page of the server that I can see. I
would love a newer version. It should not be so hard to find
softsqueeze. It used to be on the main Web

I found 3.8 from SourceForge. I get the same results. And when I connect
via ssh tunnel on my laptop, and it keeps disconnecting, my SoftSqueeze
on my desktop starts to blink, so the server is being taxed.

I can't provide any specific help but you could try enabling logging for
SSH and slimproto in the Softsqueeze Debug tab and then re-open the
console window and see what log message are saved.
It sounds like a firewall or similar issue on port 3483 where messages
from Softsqueeze are not being re
The problem is running two SoftSqueezes (from different machines) at
once. If I turn the one on my desktop off, the laptop one works through
the tunnel. If the desktop one is also on, both go beserk.
Is there a limit of only one SoftSqueeze at a time?

so it might be possible for something to offer the existing SBS
stream.mp3 via UPnP, which you could then find on the XMB of the PS3 and

local music and I think stream as well. PlayOn costs money, and really
isnn't to good on streaming local media as yet, but you might take a
look at that program as well.

To advance any further you'll need to install Linux on the PS3, without
it you won't be able to communicate directly with Squeezebox Server.
I just run PS3 Media Server alongside with Squeezebox Server on my
server, to access my music library from the regular interface of my
PS3.

I'm running Squeezecenter v7.4.1 on Windows Server 2003. I have a
Softsqueeze client running on a Windows 7 (Ultimate) Media Centre PC on
the network. I put this PC into S3 sleep mode when I push the power
button (using the MCE Standby Tool).
The problem is that the Softsqueeze app doesn't wake up

I am an SSH newbie. Is there something I need to do on the ssh server
side, or can I just have these ports forwarded from the router having
established an ssh connection to port 22?
If it's the latter, I'm doing that & it's still not working. (Do i need
to change something in the softsqueeze pref
Never mind -- apparently you have to separate the "additional ports to
forward" in the Softsqueeze window by commas. Then it works fine. Music
anywhere - awesome!

To summarise, softsqueeze plays the first minute or so of each track
then skips onto the next track and I'd like to know how I can fix it.

Why do you need to run SoftSqueeze ?
Why not use JiveLite anbd Squeezelite ? - I suspect they will less
resources than Java/Softsqueeze.

Only on the SoftSqueeze - hardware players are fine. This is a known issue.

settings section of the preferenc
Please try Softsqueeze 2.0b8 either from the softsqueeze sourceforge
downloads, or in tomorrows slimserver 6.0.x nightly build.

I upgraded my OS from OS X 10.3.9 to 10.4.10 and reinstalled Slimserver
with the latest version (before I had 6.4) and the latest version of
Softsqueeze too. I decided to try Squeezebox first to see if all was OK
and then try using my SB3 but Softsqueeze player shows the message:

For Windows, I initially tried softsqueeze_windows_with_jre_3_3.exe.
This failed miserably with problems as described above, so I installed
jre1.5.0_11 from Sun's website, and installed
softsqueeze_windows_3_3.exe. I then added javamp3-1_0.exe (the java mp3
plugin) as recommended by softsqueeze

I find that SS does NOT run with the latest JRE 1.6.0_01 on my
computer--I have to stick with 1.5.0_11. I have two SB3's but I use SS
at the office to access my library at home. Unfortunately, there is
very little to no support for SS. :(

Also, I think I once ran into an issue where SS was trying to connect
to the computer by name and for some reason used an abbreviation of the

Assuming SoftSqueeze is on the same computer as SlimServer, just set the
computer name in SoftSqueeze to
localhost
That should work.
You should also double-check that the entries are the same (localhost
or computer name) in the Networking and Basic tabs of SoftSsqueeze
preferences.
