Information and guidance sort on character encoding in Thunderbird and
Ubuntu 9.10. (may not just apply on e-mail programs).
For some reason I've started getting strange characters appearing in
some e-mails, a black diamond with a ? mark in the centre.
Now my encoding was set to Unicode UTF-8. I
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and can now up-grade via Update Manager to 10.04
but need to confirm:-
I have 3 separate partitions for Ubuntu, Linux swap and /Home.
When upgrading the system am I correct that I can just upgrade Ubuntu
system (sda3), then point to '/Home' (sda5) when requested ensuring

Just looking into possible purchase of a projector for use on my Linux
machines.
Requirements are:-
Simple to operate
Able to work in a medium sized hall with limited blackout facilities and
at home
Inputs from VGA, sRGB, Video. HDMI, USB (would be nice)
Brightness 2000+
Contrast 1800+
I was asked a question by my friend who is trying to install Linux on
his new PC fitted with a 2 disk Raid array (SATA disks).
Is there a restriction on the number of partitions you can have within
an 'extended' partition?
He is getting an error report when trying to make the '/Home' partitio

Back from CH and Victor was after a projector screen, unfortunately I

Have a problem on a friends old Laptop at the login screen:- top left
shows a graphical keyboard, centre the normal user selection logins BUT
key presses have to be for 1 sec each character (which is a pain).
Tried to delete the graphical k'board but it disabled the keyboard!
