I've been suspecting my filters are drifting too! A friend of mine had his
lower SSB filter go intermittent this weekend. I have a few Drake rigs and the
audio is not right coming out of a couple of them. I think the crystals in the
filters are drifting and producing weird shaped output curv
Something is putting a BIG load on the transformer. Most likely you are
correct in assuming the caps are bad and shorted.

I am in need of a couple 10 meter crystals for my Drake TR-4C Transceiver. (I
want to install the extra upper and lower 10 meter segments into my radio.)
The crystals need to be 42.5 Mhz and 43.6 Mhz. I( don't want any badly drifted
off frequency crystals.) I am not interested in any fake HC-6
Talking about Drake dials, I'd like make a WARNING to the group. (I have told
this story before, but a long time ago. The warning my save some VFO dials.)
Back in the middle ages, (the 60s), I had a TR-4 with metal gears in the VFO
dial train. I was in the habit of spinning the dial up a
I just tried it and nothing worked. I clicked on chat and nothing happened. I
then clicken on freenet policy and again nothing except for a notice I might
have typed in a wrong URL. As I just clicked on the botton, that could not be
true. Sure did not impress me. Seems like a waste of time.
I would like to know what actually happened. Garey is a great guy, and nobody
knows more about Drake equipment then him. Unless someone can explain to me
what happened, I'll be dropping this list too.

I had to take two nitro pills to calm down after reading this. :)
I think this is a good example why one should document changes made to any

Thanks for any info.
Garey,
Just to put something on this reflector, you might remember my posts a couple
months ago regarding having a reflector not allowing Sherwood Mod discussion.
(I can't stand them nor any discussion about them). I had asked the list to
get a hold of me privately regarding opening such a l
Personally I would never consider modifying my Drakes. They work great as is.
When I want 2011 technology, I use one of my modern rigs. When I turn on my
Drakes, I want to experience a Drake rig, and not some cobbled up one. I no
longer would consider buying any Drake rig with modification
Some of you guys may be interested in this source for boat anchor type
crystals. IQ Electronic Design in the UK sells used as well as new crystals
made to order just for you. Vincent Jakomin makes a few types but for our boat
anchors, he makes real HC-6/U CRYSTALS. I recently had him make two
Why would feed-thru caps fail or be of concern? I don't think I've ever seen
any feed-thru caps fail anywhere I have ever seen them. I've have seen broken
ones or cracked ones but this was due to mechanical stress.

There was a post on one of the reflectors a couple weeks ago regarding
yellowing of plastic like what is used on some computers. You can make it look
as new by dunking the plastic
in a solution of water mixed with Oxyclean and Hydrogen Peroxide. The plastic
comes out as new. Plastic turns
You said it, Garey. What a terrible idea. It's a waste of a radio, time,
manpower, and money.
