Granted, this wasn't ideal. If the machine was 'too busy' or failed,
traffic was allowed to pass. It sure beat the alternative of the
organization having the WAN link dropped.

AFAIK, is not needed to store the complete mail but the mail log ( mail id,
incoming ip, destination, time of pass )
Read carefully your country laws to be sure.

I've disabled the port forwarding rule for smtp and created by hand a
SNAT iptables rule forcing to be the first one in the POSTROUTING chain
(yes dest. port redundant )
iptables -t nat -I POSTROUTING -s internal_mailserver_ip -p tcp --dport
25 -j SNAT --to public_mailserver_

I'm running Endian 2.1 and am having a problem with gmail's pop3 access
they use pop over ssl.
If I enable the "E-mail scanner (pop3)" with either Virus scanning/spam
filtering/or both set on, pop3 to gmail fails. Other plain pop3 server
work. If the both scanners are disabled gmail works.
I've t

This would be a very common need.
I already do this in OpenBSD but I am evaluating Endian as a replacement as
it has a nice GUI system.
