Is anyone in the group using a Butternut HF2V with the 30m add-on kit? I've
used the basic antenna for years with great results, but the 30m kit is not
tuning up correctly. Posted reviews I've seen have indicated no problems.
If you're using one of these and would be kind enough to correspond
I have a question for the collective out there. What is your favorite antenna

would like to hear what you have found to be a good balance between ease of use
and effectiveness as an antenna.
I have used a W3EDP with

I had a similar problem with mine and found faulty relays K1 and K2.
These are very sensitive relays. I believe they were very slightly touched
on the outside with my soldering iron.
You can check the relays when switching bands.
Replaced both of them and solved the problem.

Hi Tom,
First of all, I swing a nylon mason line string with a weight attached to
the free end (with a fishing swivel) over a convenient horizontal tree
branch up about 25 +/- feet. I take off the weight and attach my center
insulator to that free end of string, going through the eye hook on the
I've had my K2 built for about 2 months now. Everything works except the noise
blanker. I've looked at a lot of archives on this. What I have done to test
it is:
1. Scratch the top of Q21 on the RF board to generate noise.
2. Using an oscilloscope, I can trace the noise pulse through Q2-Q4
Hi Nick,
I've checked the relays and they are working OK as far as I can tell using
my multimeter. I would say that it's only a little deafish - but 20m has
been so poor it's not easy to tell. But I have a decent watt meter and am
getting 3 watts on 30m and 40m but 2 watts on 20m.
Yes you should see the pulse there. I had the same problem when I built
mine a few years back and ended up right where you are, but what I found was
that I had a bad connection on C8 the coupling cap on the output of Q5. The
result will also look like a bad Transistor with no pulse showing on

Hi Tom,
I have two favorites: my homebrew PAC-12 vertical, and my twinlead inverted

If there are skyhooks available, I'll use the inverted vee. It only

My antenna for portable operation is a 44 ft. doublet antenna fed with

I use it in conjunction with a telescoping pole, but a line over a tree
branch would work too - the pole is not 'tree dependent'. I erect it

Cutting PC lands for changes/upgrades is an industry accepted practice, so
it should not be regarded as 'hacking' at all - the result will still look

There are many ways to make a cut - if there are a lot of cuts the easiest

I am trying to drive an external amp, 300W amp, with my base QRP K2. The issue
I am having is that during SSB mode transmissions, the amp's T/R switch often
opens and closes between the sylables of some words. Is there an adjustment I
can make in the K2 to help lessen this? Otherwise, it

By any chance did you forget to plug in the cable that goes to the AUX RF

I have in ATU installed.
When I attempted to tune the rig, I got a Lo P reading.
It's easy enough to create one and put a switch in to turn the sense circuit
on and off. I've done this on many amps, especially on VHF/UHF amps to cure
this SSB problem.

To Tom K4TJD,
My FAVORITE antenna for my KX1 is a 25 ft piece of wire with one or more
radials (17 ft or whatever is available) lying on the ground. This maximizes
my on the air time. If you can get the top up 25 ft this is great, however

The filter select codes can be modified for every mode (right click in
