Hi Randall, You can connect a random wire antenna directly to the T1 (then toss it into a tree, etc.) without a feedline. But you'll need to add a ground counterpoise wire, too; use at least one wire cut to 1/4 wavelength on the lowest band in use. If you want to run a balanced feedline to

Tom, I believe the source of that situation is in the K3. Run the TX gain calibration to see if that helps. There will always be some remnant of that behavior because of the way the K3 controls power output, but the time for it to come up to full power should be relatively short - a few second

I noticed that my KPA500 does not always give the full power that it is set for. For example, if I turn it on,put it in operate and then transmit my call sign (in a pile up), the first few transmits are lower in power (around 50-100 watts) and it takes 7 or 8 of these before the power gets to 500W

Well, problem finally identified!! I borrowed an Elecraft Heil ProSet & adaptor lead from a local HAM. It worked fine with my K2 rig & my own headset (microphone) still didn't work. I tested my adaptor lead with his headset & found that it was fine, so the problem must be either the plug, the lead
