Ed,
I am evaluating a pcboard relay for switching RF (Tx/Rx) and need to
know what speed that the relay needs to qualify for semi-break in.
Also, a precise definition of semi-breakin would be nice.
I don't know that there is a precise definition of the speed needed for
semi-break in. However
Actually, it does in fact turn off RIT. I just did the following on K3
running firmware 4.51:
- Tune to 7024 kHz
- In CONFIG, set CW QRQ:Off
- Tap RIT and tune RIT (smaller VFO knob) to 7025 kHz. Delta-F and RIT "+"
LEDs light up.
- Transmit a dit. RIT is active. TX occurs on 7024 and RX occurs on
The original post suggested that if you turn on QRQ it will turn off RIT. That's not the
case. They ARE incompatible, so that RIT (temporarily) forces QRQ off. But you can leave
the QRQ parameter in the config menu on, and then you will have it whenever you are not
using RIT, XIT or SPLIT.

Ed,
Semi-break-in to me means has meant that one does not have to listen to
clacking relays during the QSO, only at the beginning and end of the
transmission. Elecraft uses all electronic switching, so for all
Elecraft gear, that statement is moot - there are no relays to clatter
either with
Either way would be fine :-).

I was told that full QSK means you can hear between di and dah. If this is

IMX "semi breakin" means that you do not need to physically throw any
switches to go from transmit to receive.
Compared to "QSK", in semi-breakin you typically do not hear any signals
between code characters, letter or even words. Often the timing is variable,
but I've never seen anything approa

The "+" also indicates that RIT is disabled (a side effect of QRQ mode
being turned on, for blazing fast QSK). There's been some discussion that
limited RIT will be restored while in QRQ mode in the future.
