Brendon, I'm trouble-shooting a P3 noise problem (via Elecraft) that
exhibits itself when I key the K3 even when all RF power is set to zero and
the antennas are dummy loads. The circumstances that initiate my fault are
quite different from yours but I report it because the symptoms are similar:

I have been looking for an opportunity to sing Don's praises, so I can't let

I have, likewise, been looking for the same opportunity. I would venture to

I bought the KX3-PCKT cable kit along with my KX3 -- my primary interest

I also see on the list that a lot of you use a sound card interface

If the KX3 has enough isolation, is more isolation needed?
What am I missing?

Hi all,
This release of KX3 firmware has several significant improvements. See release

We'd like to release this to beta test on Monday, but we could use some
additional pre-testing. If you're interested, please email me directly and I'll

Lynn,
The KX3 has no isolation (the K3 does have isolation).
What you will normally find is that the isolation will lower the base
noise level. How much depends on your computer and soundcard - some are
pretty good already.

Gerald,
Did you add the 10k resistors to RP2? If you did, check the value of
RP2. If it is 10k (last digits = 103), then the resistors should not
have been added. OTOH, if RP2 is 100k (marked 104), the 10k resistors
should stay in place and you will have to look elsewhere for the problem.
Wow, that made a big difference in the SSB receive performance. The audio is
no longer choppy on strong signals due to the mute/unmute bug plus the expanded
AF gain envelope makes setting the listening level a real easy task now. The
internal speaker actually sounds very close to natural now,
Paul,
The com port baud rate is a different 'animal' than the soundcard
sampling rate.
The KX3 can operate at a baud rate of 38400 (two zeros), and I would
recommend that the COM port be set to that rate - although that normally
happens automatically.
The com port will provide rig control -

Hi Dick
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation.
The methodologies for the auto band switching of the KAT500 are too complex
for me so I will have to stick with the RF sensing, except of course when I
use the K3 !!
Thanks again for your response. It really is appreciated.
