Hi there Paul,
Mike K2MK mentioned that & Joe, W4TV along the same line. I made up
the pieces today and did as was suggested. Indeed this is exactly
what I wanted to do with the K3 & the directional Rx antenna, mission
accomplished. Now I can null out offending stations sometimes to the

Best evidence of the success of this operation is that they are working
most of NA on 160M, including me on Friday morning. From my QTH, that is

Good Evening,
Weather has turned colder this weekend. Snow is due tomorrow so the
dry spell is over. The sun has been actively tossing ions our way and
causing some noise in the process. There is a blast due tomorrow which
may give the earth a glancing blow. We shall see.

I told the wife I would build my K3 for "an hour or so each night after
dinner." However, I forgot how much I love putting together a well-engineered
kit... it was done by the following day...
After it was done I was messing around with the settings (with NO antenna

Hello Jim,
K144RFLK is adequate for SSB/CW unless you go for digital which you will also
need external 10Mhz reference. Of course, I assume you have already installed
the KTCXO3
According to the operation manual, you can add more transverters as long as you
have the KXV3A installed.

I would love an option that had 144/222/70cm/and 1.2 in a box. I've been
thinking about getting a ts-2000x, but I don't need all the HF stuff. If
Elecraft came out with such a product, I know many hams in my social group

I'm entertaining the idea of adding the K144XV 2m module to my K3.
1) How necessary is the K144RFLK REFLOCK for routine SSB/CW operation,
with maybe some FM thrown in?
No plans for digital at this time.
2) Is there still room to add transverters to my transverter interface

Take a look at the K144XV-K Internal 2 M 10w Module Kit for the K3.

A rig would be good but whats more my interest I would really like to
see Elecraft make a matching amplifier for VHF/UHF to go with the
transverters and K3 with the 2m added.

Lane,
The center (wiper) contact of R1 is indeed connected to the cathode of
D4 - refer to the Front Panel schematic and you can confirm that fact
for yourself.

The schematic shows that D4 is connected to the wiper of R1. So yes, it
is supposed to be like that!

On pg. 24, a diode for D4 was installed.
On pg. 26 a 5-k linear-taper R1 was installed.

Gary,
If you want to hear the same antenna in both ears, connect it
to the RX IN jack and press RX ANT on the Main RX. Yes, you
will see a 3 dB "loss" due to the splitting on both receivers
but that's unavoidable *anytime* you feed a single antenna to
both receivers.

Hi Mike,
What you're suggesting sounds like a good idea. I don't often use
diversity because of the dB loss and the stations I am usually trying
to work are the faintest ones out there. instead, I use the two
receivers linked on the same frequency, that gives me the best
sensitivity and I just

David,
Its a Hi-Z Triangular array, it is only a rx antenna, not for
transmit. Used to be sold by Hi-Z themselves but now sold are now
sold albeit at a higher price by DXEngineering. You can read about
their antennas here: http://www.hizantennas.com There are links on
their antenna pages to DX
Hi Gary,
You didn't indicate if you are running split or diversity. Here's a solution
if you are in diversity.
There are times that you would like the RX ANT to be steered to both your
MAIN RX and SUB RX. I do that with a splitter on my RX antenna cable. One
leg goes to the AUX RF BNC socket for
Back in volume 117, issue 39 there was some chatter about having no output
power from a K3. Whatever became of that issue? I have seen nothing since.

Hello,
I have built the first prototype of my interface and everything works very
well!
It opens to me a new dimension in the use of the KAT500, via serial commands
and Arduino microcontroler.
What I have done is :
Arduino TTL serial TX/RX connected to a classic MAX232 IC (TTL pins)

You haven't mentioned this, Chris, but have you tried resetting the K3
to factory settings (after saving your configuration with the K3
Utility, of course)? Also, reloading the latest firmware to the K3 might
help. The latest firmware is MCU 4.67, DSP 2.81, FL 1.15.

Well, I may be pouring cold water. Compared with HF radio, high end multimode
VHF/UHF radios is of much less demand.
The current XV transverter series with K3 is also not quite a solution for
serious V/U operators especially digital mode user. Frequency and power
stability of K radio + XV tra
