Sounds like a power glitch. I’ve seen that with my KPA500. My amp is powered
from a 240v line w/neutral. As to why unplugging was necessary, I can only
speculate primary leakage current or line input filter, which is in the
microamp range, was a contributing factor.

I would leave it at 4.96 as that tells me it was set at some point (from

Hi Ken,
You are correct… an excellent way to learn is the Koch method with the
Farnsworth spacing. Characters are typically formed at 20wpm and then space
increase to get the speed down to something copyable. That gives good sound and
an adjustable pace.
I’m learning now and using the Farnswor
Hi Keith,
Mine reads 4.96, so should it be set to 5.0 or left alone?
Thanks.

Notes for all;
Check the K3 config menu item "ADC REF". If at 5.00 it is probably at

(if at 4.00 a glitch occurred, probably during FW update, and will FUBAR
the internal metering. Set to 5.00 or read on).

I don't understand the paradigm that the K4 is WAY more expensive than the K3s.
If you outfit a K3s with everything that is included for example, in a K4D, I
believe you'll find the K3s package is actually MORE expensive than the K4D.
Don't forget to include: The P3, + transmit monitor, + VGA o

Check the KAT500 utility to see which antennas are authorized and for which

If by "hit the TUNE button", you are referring to the TUNE button on the

I recently put my KPA500 back into service. Seems to work perfectly.
However, I’m puzzled by what looks like a giant asterisk that appears in the
little alphanumeric readout; I think it was when reading SWR, but I’m not sure.
