Better hold off until the VFO tunning noise is fixed, or you will be quite
surprized and once you hear it you won't be able to ignore it.

I have KX3 #410, kit.
It had no VFO noise issue while I used it on all bands for about 2 month, in
shack or portable.
Then it was stored in a box, in the house, nicely packaged, for about 2 month.
Today I turned it on, and it has horrible VFO noise issues.
Significantly over band noise on 14Mhz
You could use your iPhone with iSDR or similar app.
Take either I or Q output from KX3, and connect it to the iPhone microphone
jack.
Done it, it works. you only get 24KHz range, because the iPhone mic input is
mono.
Total cost under $10. (4pole jack, cable)
Or you could connect both I and Q to
I've got this too. What is going on?

Does the ALC meter 'Elecraft rule' apply to digital modes (PSK31, etc),
meaning that 4 bars is good ?
(As opposed to trying to have no bars on ALC meter for digi modes).

Trying to create an audio data cable for KX3.
In the diagram for the Microphone jack, there is Shield (sleeve), and Logic
Ground (ring2).
Which one of these is the audio (mic) ground ?

Can the K3 roofing filters be used in KX3 ?

For NR I always use BHI (Gap Hear it) or Lingua
(http://www.ssbusa.com/LINGUA.html) products. They seem to be very similar
technology, with the audio implemented a bit differently.
If you use headphones for very weak signals in large amounts of noise, I
recommend the 10W BHI speaker, it has a
Encouraged by Gary Surrency's feedback that I can just replace it with a normal
capacitor, I just went ahead and did it..
In any case, I understood from Gary that RS232 wouldn't work if I messed up,
and RS232 worked totally fine, controlling the radio from Ham Radio Deluxe. So
all good here
Hi,
I knocked out C9, a big capacitor (compared to the other SMDs) while
reistalling the subRX.
It got hooked by the coax from the Aux antenna.
My question is, what does C9 do, and what would happen without it ?
Also any suggestions ? I never did SMD soldering, and also this one seems
tricky.
I subscribe to this too.

Hi,
I think there might be a minor bug in the K3 firmware when switching antennas
in Diversity mode.
Context:
Have 2 antennas, connected to Main and Aux, that even on the same frequency
give you signals which are different enough that you can tell the difference.
In normal (non-diversity
I tested, as far as I could use my ears, but it is difficult to be sure (
especially being in Londodn, UK, and having S5-S9 noise on all usable bands), I
was hoping someone has tried a similar thing, or someone at Elecraft can
explain what is happening in such a situation in the radio.
E.g.
I have the 5 pole 2.7 filters for main and sub RX.
One filter offset is -.94, the other is -.81
In order to do diversity receive, I have to set them both to about -.88
My question is: what happens when you set a filter offset differently than the
one specified (as in my case) ?
How is this
Hi
I noticed there are 10 keys that could have macros assigned to them (M1-M4
tap/hold and PF1, PF2 hold), but only 8 macros in total can be assigned to
them.
It would be nice, if that wasn't a big effort, if 2 more macros could be
assigned to keys.
Cheers,

Also this 'feature' can be a bit inconvenient, when it happens without its

It would be nice to have the consistency and the finer granularity.
