whether I am transmitting or not. Fan control is working fine, and I
bumped up the lowest speed to help keep the amp cooler.
Let me know if anyone has seen this before. Meanwhile, I will keep using
it and see how it goes.
My CM500 died on me, looks like the electret element … I replaced the set with
a Koss SB/45
which was cheaper and quite comfortable and plugs into the K3 as well (K4 too).
The price of the CM500 had doubled up here in Canada for some reason, so the
Koss looked more attractive.

Having said that, Q5 have a really slick multi band transverter that would
integrate really well on the K3 or K4… but at a price point.
Anyway I do hope Elecraft come up with something that is crunch proof and rock
solid for 144 222 432 MHz.

I use my K3 daily on 6 m but you need one of the preamps or a good GAsFEt
preamp with it…for DX activities.
Its fine without for local stuff… especially in urban areas..

boards after they upgraded to KSYN3A. I am sorting through the email

Thanks Bill; the KX1 has the antenna tuner and 30m. The 30m option is
soldered in, but I did reseat the tuner just now and that may have well
fixed it. I appreciate the suggestion!

I didn't get any response to my query below, but I have a solution in place
finally. I'm no electronics wiz but I found some circuits and constructed
something based on a 555 that works nicely. If any else is interested in

Wow thanks Bob. I thought I was going nuts and wasn't sure where the
sidetone was coming from. Seems odd that the normal mon control doesn't

The firmware is up to date (MCU 2.34, DSP 1.33).
I have done a TX gain calibration and the SWR indicator is still reading
as before.

the K2. However, the Elecraft web site says the K2 batter is a
Gel-Cell, not Sealed Liquid Acid. Does this make a difference? Were
some K2 batteries SLA and some Gel-cell?

Aux outputs on the KRC2, how does
one control those remotely (that is, via the serial interface or some
other means)? I have to select directions on my 4 square, and switch
in and out a series capacitor on my 80 meter vertical for SSB.
