It has to be something simple I would think.

Thank you Dick. I will be returning to that QTH with another power supply and
cable, deoxit and sandpaper to clean connections. I did turn the offending
Astron supply off and on at the switch but didn't unplug it. Would that have
been enough to reset the crowbar circuit?

Will post an update and again, I really appreciate the quick and helpful
responses from the group.

Good news! Brought the rig home and connected to a different RS-35A and
cable and all is well!! So, it's either the power supply or cable--easy and
much less expensive fixes.
Thank you all for your suggestions!

Just checked supply. Fuse looks good and while I can't measure voltage under
load, it is putting out 12v as my keyer came to life and greeted me!

enna traps.
That would explain the high SWR but I thought the rig would shut itself down
safely. It is dead. No rx or tx.
I've two K3's. My first was #1001 and this is a first for me. Any
thoughts?

I'm sorry I didn't post the "fix." As it turned out, the RF board holding
the BNC jacks was bad. Elecraft sent a replacement and I was up and running
again.

Attempting to
select Fixed-Tune in the Menu would not work until after a few reboots of
the P3.
In the archives I see that K9YC bonded the K3 and P3 chassis and I will try
the same. Wonder if anyone else has come up with a fix.

I don't believe so since SUB is not a programmable button as is M1-4 etc.
But, I too would like to
be able to program this button as REV in my K3 without a sub rx.

I used an Omni VII for several years and while the receiver specs aren't up
to K3 standards, it had three features that I miss on the K3.
Band stacking registers-four per band
Separate volume settings for Spot and Sidetone
An external heat sink so that fans are not necessary

wiggled IF cable, verified that nothing else has changed, checked P3 Menu
items etc. Searched archives. There has to be something simple here going

n control worked normally. I was
using K3 Utility Mac version 1.4.1.8
I remember a similar situation a few years back but a newer version of the
K3 utility addressed it. Is this a known problem? I didn't find any recent
posts about it.

Mike, Ten Tec provides for CW mode selection on its larger rigs--Orion and
Omni VII.
I believe the Eagle only allows Curtis B mode.

We have two iMacs and a MacBook all within 8-15 feet of one leg of a slanting
delta loop. I usually run 100w but crank up an amp to 500w on occasion. We
have no RFI on any of the computers. The shack is on the second floor so RF
grounding is marginal at best.

Susan, I whole heartedly agree with Toby. The Omni VII is a fine rig. If
you're operating CW, the optional filters are a must IMHO. They act as much
as band pass filters as "distributed roofing filters."

I agree Rich. After a string of Kenwood rigs starting with a TS 820S, I've
gotten used to tuning from the bottom of the band. MacLoggerDX allows me to
map the program so that clicking on a CW spot delivers CW-R.
