I've got one of these paddles and really like it for mobile and portable
operation. However, I would like to make up another cable or two to go from the
paddle to the keyer. Does anybody have the part number or description of that 3
pin plug on the paddle end? I assume such would be available
Would you quit contesting if you walked into the 20 meter RTTY tent at Field
Day and saw the same thing? And BTW, 140/hr on Field Day CW ain’t going to
happen even running a great pileup. FD ops just aren’t as fast as European QRQ
ops in CQWW or the like, and tuning around (however it is done)
A good CW contest op will adjust speed to the conditions. It’s a bit like
tennis, with the point being to keep a rally going, not to demolish the other
guy. The other guy hits me a hard one, it’s a lot more satisfying to hit a hard
one back. A less skilled player hits me a soft one, I’m not
I’ve noticed an occasional situation where after tuning with the internal
tuner, I have low power (about 20 watts on the K3 power display). I notice this
in SSB only. A couple of dots on CW (I have CW in SSB enabled) clears the
condition and returns things to normal power. (100 watts). A power
For a couple of photos of the joys of playing with Elecraft radios, check out
my operation in the 2017 ARRL DX CW contest. The photos don't include my K3,
and would not likely be considered suitable for publication, but anyway:

It is very common on VHF to switch to CW to call a guy who is transmitting on
SSB, most often after calling him on SSB doesn't get through. CW in SSB makes
it unnecessary to switch modes to do so.

OTOH, this can be a feature of tunnels, not a bug. Several years ago I was
riding on the “BikePike”, an abandoned section of the PA Turnpike east of
Breezewood that has become a bicycle route featuring two old tunnels. Although
closed off to motor vehicle traffic, we noticed a pickup parked
I had a similar event last October in the New York QSO Party with my K3,
s/n67xx. After the first QSO (from a beautiful overlook in Fort Tryon Park in
Manhattan) it simply stopped putting out RF. It went into transmit, just no RF.
I tried power cycling, jiggling external connectors, etc. After
FWIW I have had about a sudden 10dB increase in spam, beginning around Friday
morning. Lots of crap about Qantas flights and “Coles” gift certificates, as
well as others I don’t remember after quickly deleting therm.

The more significant question where can one find a lovely wife nice enough to
order a K-Pod for Christmas? :-)
Merry Christmas,

I'm selling my KXPA100, SN# 0919, with KXAT100 tuner, KXPACBL cable set, KXUSB
USB Cable, and manuals. All is fine, but having acquired a K3 since I got the
KX3/KXPA100, I no longer need this amp for my full power operating.
$900 including shipping in USA. I can also deliver at Orlando, and
You need to set the VOX Delay while in the CW mode, to a long enough time to
keep the transverter from dropping out. You'll likely want to reset that if you
go back to CW operation without the transverter.
Also, it was a relatively recent firmware version that fixed the problem. Be
sure you
Ed,
One can have a heck of a lot of fun with just a KX3 in a warm DX
location.
Check out (if you have access) my article on the topic in the Sept/Oct
2014 National Contest Journal. This is not readily available online,
but I could send you a scanned PDF.
I was able to fit my full station
A real world data point:
I recently ordered two MFJ 17 ft telescoping masts, which arrived today. Not
exactly high tech. One of them was defective - a section that was jammed and
would not come apart, along with an adjacent joint that felt way too loose.
HRO had me ship it back to them, and
I too am very glad you escaped, as close as things were.
This helps explain why lithium batteries are not allowed in checked luggage on
airplanes. If anybody is traveling with such batteries, be sure they are in
your carry on luggage. I suspect luggage screeners are on the lookout for them.
At the same time, I'd like to have a selection of nothing on at least the
ring input of the key jack. (Actually my request is for the KX3, but I
assume they work the same way.)
With Nothing selected on the ring and KEY selected on the tip, the key
input would be compatible with mono 1/8
I've run into several occasions where in mid-CW transmission my KXPA100
(with internal tuner) SWR takes a momentary jump from matched to maybe 3:1. I
see the SWR jump on both the KXPA front panel LEDs and on the KX3 VSWR
display. It lasts for maybe half a second, I hear several clicks of
With V2.19, it's good to finally get the CW delay issue when using CW in
SSB resolved.
However, I have noticeable key clicks when using CW in SSB with an external
keyer. I hear them both in the KX3 monitor, and listening on a separate
receiver.
No problem when using the internal keyer,
I bought two of these at Dayton to interface a K3 to a six position coax
relay/switch.
Works fine. Two notes:
1. I've heard that chopping off an end of a VGA cable to go to the K3 may
not work, as some VGA cables are missing certain wires that are needed for
the K3 interface. I was able
Not necessarily.
Several weeks ago a friend found a $100/night room at the Crowne Plaza
via one of these online sites. Until he tried to book it, and it was not
available.
Good luck,

May I again make my plea to upgrade the KX3 firmware to provide the normal
CW vox delay when using CW in SSB? Still not there in Ver 1.87.
This delay is very necessary when using external transverters for VHF/UHF,
where the ACC2 control sends the T/R closure to the transverter.
