BTW Elecraft (The Best Radio Company in the World) sent me the replacement
part for free. Pretty impressive as it was obviously my fault.

I had the same problem with a BL-2 kit. They really should wrap those cores.
Scott at Elecraft sent me a new set of cores the next day.

Thanks to all who responded to my question about termination.
Now another: What is the limiting factor in the power rating of the coupler?
With either the 20db (max 25W), or the 30db (max 250W) the power delivered
to the secondary is 0.25W. The terminating resistors are rated at 3W. Are

Hi All:
I am not sure I understand the procedure for terminating the sampling ports.
If a port is unused it says to terminate it into the internal 50 ohm load to
maintain balance. This makes sense. But if I connect a port (or ports)
through a short piece of 50 ohm coax to a scope which has a hi

Thanks to all who responded.
The archive provided a wealth of information on this well-known problem.
I spoke with Scott at Elecraft and he is sending me a nylon screw.
He told me that there had been a Builder's Alert on this problem in the
past, but he was also unable to find it on the web site. H
Hello all:
I had disassembled my previously operational KX1 (SN854) in anticipation of
adding the KXB3080 option. However I realized that it would be some time
before I could get around to it, and I felt like operating. So I put it
back together, powered it up, and released the smoke. Examina
Well said Jim. We are very lucky to have his expertise available to the

Hello All:
I'm putting a NGEN and an XG-2 in a small project case. Assuming that both
devices would not be on at the same time, would there be some way to couple
the outputs to a single BNC connector, without using a switch, and without
degrading the performance of the XG-2?
Also will I hav
Hello All:
What is the proper way to set AGC in the K2?
The manual suggests adjusting R1 for 3.80V at U2-5 as a starting point, but
then gives no other information.

there any special precautions or procedures for using this solder?
Any quality solder will work. You just have to assemble the K-1 in a vacuum
chamber to out-gas the connections. Remember to hold your breath to avoid
contamination.

Yes I have found that my three element 80 meter beam at 190 feet seems to

However I am experimenting with a full wavelength 80 meter vertic

Hello all:
I was wondering if anyone has ever detached the faceplate of a K2? I'm
considering using this rig for pedestrian mobile, and I think it would be
really neat to have the ability to have the rig in a backpack, and the
controls in a fanny pack, as in the ICOM 706. Any ideas?
Thanks,

large dense hairy object between the two earphones. Unfortunately, it can't
be fixed.
True, large dense hairy objects cannot be fixed, but they can be divorced.

Hello All:
The other day CNN showed the FEMA Field Command Center. Many people had
chest-pack radios that looked about the size of a FT 817. They appeared to
have short whip antennas (about 12 inches). Does anyone know what these
radios are, or who makes the chest-packs?
