Hi Geoff,
The only difference I see is that the Koss and the Monacor have a dynamic
mic insert.
The headphone are high impedance and seem to suit the K3, and the hf noise
seems to less of a problem even without the mods.
Since I normally only operate CW and PSK the mic does not bother me.

I've noticed and observed this exact same thing while using MixW or DM780.
The auto notch doesn't kill the desired signal like it should - it appears
that it's "missing" on either side of the signal. The manual notch works
as it should.

I've used the MFJ-1026 combined with the NB/NR in the K3 to greatly
reduce all kinds of strange noise from the city. Often I need to
start with the MFJ-1026, to null out as much as possible and then I
hit the NB to get the rest. It's a fairly powerful combination.

I would buy a) isolated jacks, b) mount regular jacks in plastic to
isolate them, or c) use an all plastic box to isolate them. That was
you don't have to remember to use a specially wired cable to preserve
the isolation.

Randy,
I use my K3 probably 30+ hours per week and I find it superbly suited for my
purposes. A bigger box with more knobs I don't need but that's just me.
YMMV.

Just noticed the manual for the K144XV is on line. It answered many
questions I had.

also. The KXV's are more
sensitive and have a little more output and I use them at QTH. I like the ease
of switching bands and the offsets for keeping frequency easy to see.
Personaly I just do not like taking my K2 and transverters mountain topping.

Hi All,
I was just wondering about the 40 m and started to listen to the AM
broadcasts.
I also found the nasty noises, but when I checked on the LP-Pan, I found the
signal was ok.
Of course, when I turned off the noise blanker it went away.
Yet another senior moment.

Hi,
My advice is not to use the long lever end of the hex key, insert the long
end in the grub screw.

The only knobs I've had trouble with are the smaller AF and RF/SQL
concentric knobs. I've had to replace twice and hope the current ones hold
up. And, I might say, I've been very careful to not over tighten. I'll bet
this problem is (or has been) overcome in Aptos!

Swapped USB/serial adapters. The one being used for the K3 works in another
application. So I'm down to software or serial port hardware problem with
K3. Taking a break. Thanks for any group thinking.

Without warning and having made no changes my K3-10, using utility 1.2.16,
MCU 2.78 and DSP 1.98, is now giving me "K3 is not responding". I'm using
the USB/SERIAL adapter from Elecraft. The USB ports are working on the
computer. Any ideas of what I can check? Thanks.
