Gary, Regarding the mic Z, you can use any mic, high or low Z. I am using a D104 with my K3, and as you know conventional wisdom says they want extremely high Z. Use what mic you have and use TX EQ to get it to sound good. Rick K2XT __

You are not alone Not only SSB. I have overshoot on CW. Adjust your power to e.g. to 22W and wait a while. With the first mark, the power shoot high but comes at once down to preset value of 22W. Instantly following mark starts OK. You have to wait for about 15 seconds to see it fully again.

Not only SSB. I have overshoot on CW. This problem appears to be rig-specific. I just duplicated his test using three wattmeters in series, together with a Bird 4273 RF sample. The sample feeds a Tektronix SC504 oscilloscope. My wattmeters are the Alpha 4510, LP-100, and Array PowerMaster.

After returning from Elecraft for repair and updating my K3 (1087) will reset it's Mic gain to 1 and Compression to zero. I backed up the radio's configuration when I get it back and reloading it does not solve the problem, which occurs at boot up more times then not. This is a barefoot setup

Mike, That sounds like you have your MIC SEL menu set for "H" - try tapping the "1" button to change it to "L" so you can set your mic gain higher (and gives you more range). I don't know if it will help your noise, but it would explain the difference between your setting of 9 and the other f

Thanks Lyle, Don and Gary. I did have MIC SEL set to high. I set it to L and with the mic gain at 10, I get the correct bars. I'll check later when I can get one of the critical locals on to see if that fixed the XMIT noise, which is what I really want to solve. Mike __
