In CONFIG, make sure that RS232 is set to USB, and that you’re using the USB
port on the KIO3B as the proper connection. It’s easy to overlook that change,
and the rig won’t talk to the computer without it.

On the website, go to Support/Firmware&Software. Pick the K-Line on the list,
and then K3S. Scroll down.
It’s used for firmware upgrades, configuration save/restore and several other
useful things, such as filter assignment by mode, etc.

After a computer configuration change, I needed to figure out which COM
port my K3 was coming up on. I ran K3 Utility and started trying COM ports.
After several "Port Closed" responses, I tried another and the rig began
sending *AA* and other stuff repeatedly. I couldn't stop it with the XMIT
butt
Thanks for the idea, unfortunately the problem persists. This makes me a
bit more nervous than before as I have done quite a bit of upgrading
lately (144MHz, Reflock, TCXO) and I had a fault in the tuner (capacitor
blown), and now the refclock is off by 220Hz.

I’ve gotten that. I just saved again and that one was ok. Then I deleted the
error one...but I don’t think the save with the error is necessarily bad.

That’s always been temperamental. Plugable.com have drivers for 10.15.3 but you
have to buy them and I haven’t tried them.

That shouldn’t have been needed. The drivers have been built into the macOS
since 10.9.

Make sure your Registry is clean and no fragments from installs and
uninstalls exists. I use a product called CCleaner, Pro version, to
get rid of junk files and also clean the Registry. That's two different
functions. There is a free version available. You might be

worse, updates often upset the computer and a complete reinstall is

The "SAVE" button in the K3 Utility Macro Editor writes directly to the
Windows Registry. That was the ONE place I hadn't thought to look!
BTW: The "Write to K3" button is an entirely different function, not the one
I was seeking.

I found that my computer has a serial connector so I ordered a serial cable.
The serial cable saves the configuration in a few seconds. I will use the
serial cable and not use the serial to USB since it does not work. I really
like this K3 Utility and find it very useful.

You might want to look at your computer.
It sounds to me like K3Utility has no problem gathering the
configuration information, but your computer is having trouble saving
the data to the file.

tried two different dummy loads on Antenna 1.
The K3 automatic tuner gets a 1.0/1 on the dummy load for all bands including
15m, 12m, 10m, and 6m.

and radio. You seem ok w/computer end, chk CONFIG:RS232 for radio settings.

The terminal tab provides a nice CW keyboard, except that I'm not able to
maintain it in "Transmit" mode without keeping the buffer populated. Does
anyone know of a way to do that? It would surely make normal QSOs less of a
chore.
