RE: CPU clock emissions

2001-03-02 Thread WOODS
Chris, it may be that the internals of that chip are generating the 40 MHz harmonic and it is getting out onto the ground and/or power planes. First order of business is to have a solid ground plane. Second, is to prevent noise from the DSP chip from getting on the power plane. Create a +5V island

CPU clock emissions

2001-03-02 Thread Chris Chileshe
Hi group, It's Friday and thinking hurts the head on a Friday, so I'll take the easier option and just ask. I have just returned from emissions testing on a new product. The product uses a DSP which runs off an 8Mhz oscillator and internally 'ups' this to 40Mhz. It also has a CLOCK_OUT pin whi

My impression all along has been that the likelihood of a product being placed in great numbers into domestic establishments is what defines Class D. Commericial television sets and personal computers fit this definition very well, thus their specific mention in the standard. They certainly may

Hi guys, Sorry for the "late" response, been pretty busy lately. I think we fool ourselves a little with this calibration stuff. I agree with Brian's statement that much of this boils down to going through the motions to satisfy a process, whether it's ISO, A2LA, NVLAP ... I'm not against c

I believe they are Class D because of the huge quantities of these products in circulation. I kind of makes sense, millions and millions of PCs and televisions hooked up to the mains are going to cause far more harmonics havoc than a low volume product such as an HP harmonics analyser (because no
