I just posted a blog entry on how I configured EMC2 for my three stepper
CNC machine. OK, it's the most basic configuration, and I picked a
specific situation (200 steps per rev motors, 1/4 microstepping), but I
hope it will be useful to someone else as a starting point.

ok, forgot my last message...I managed to get the rtapi module to load.
I finally found the right spot to add the mcmodel=kernel option and emc
gets past the rtapi loading.
Then 'motmod' module gave me trouble. It said the following symbols are
undefined: cos, sin, atan2, acos. I had to go back in

There are two drivers, one for the AX5214 and one for the Futurlec
PCI8255 card.
They are called hal_ax5214h and pci_8255, respectively.
The pci_8255 driver has been included with EMC2 since 2.2.0, the ax5214
driver has been there since before the 2.0.0 release.
For either card, you have to supp

Thank you Andy Ayre for such a great article on getting EMC2 and RTAI
running on Ubuntu 7.10. It was invaluable in my attempts to get EMC2 +
RTAI running on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy. I am sooo close, even so close as to
running emc2 and selecting my configuration...but alas, RTAI crashes it

Small correction, 82C55's, the cmos versions, so the board doesn't draw much
more power than is consumed by any outputs being pulled high. Each line is

Hello,
I'm using emc 2.2.2 and can't seem to override limits. This makes it
hard to realign the table
manually if emc2 happens to quit oposite the normal *home* position. Is
there a workaround
until emc2's *override limits* button becomes functional?
Thanks.

Hi Dave
What vintage and size machine is this. I used to service some of these
with GE 1050 controls. I believe I still have Gettys drives and motors
and a bunch of relays and such out in storage.
Are you using the original spindle drive amp?

I have taken some lines from pluto hal file to get thread cutting and
connected the spindle encoder to enc-03, both threading and rigid tapping
are working.
But have been unable to get the spindle speed display to w

Regarding next FISL+EMC Fest, I want to say that is a quite big "CNC"
community here in Brazil and possibly is very interesting to them
participate of such meeting...
I'm owner of a discussion forum focused in building simple CNC machines, and
some of us are using EMC² in our machines, and I think
FISL, since 3th edition, has always been broadcast trough the internet,
using theora ogg encoding (watch with VLC, mplayer, etc).
Videos of past events, key note speaks and talks are available on

Perhaps next FISL will be on June, one dry month on Porto Alegre.

Certainly cheaper over the net than physical transport. I did look at
flights and they were not cheap (~ 1400 to 1800) and will probably
increase by 20% or so by next year. :-(
Living in dry country I also looked at the temps and humidity. ...
