I have been thinking of making gear hobs this way for a while. What

I really envy you. It seems you're having lots of fun with that mill!

Sorry for not catch it earlier Peter. I thought no matter the feedback,
when index was detected it will behave as a second home switch.
I'm thinking now about making a custom component to use as limit switch and
drive it with the actual limit switch for home search and with the index
pulse

I'm playing with the homing at slow speeds so I can hit the home switch
always half a turn away from the index pulse more or less.
One thing is happening is the following:
If I let the mark (keyway in this case) of the motor at 3 o'clock and then
I turn off LinuxCNC, whenever I home the axis

Do you think is a good practice to use them as feedback? Because I'll
be coupling the servos to the ballscrews with a timing belt, so this might
not be

Well I increased the MIN_FERROR in the ini file and that solved the problem
of the following error while homing only with index.
What's not clear to me is why I can't home with the switch and index. I'm
only changing the HOME_SEARCH_VELOCITY to 0 and nothing more.

The home switch is working perfectly. I'm pushing it by hand because I'm
only testing in the desk but it works. If I only use home switch for homing
it works perfectly. The

Thank you Peter for your quick response.
I just checked my ini file and the entry is like this HOME_USE_INDEX = YES.
I also have set SEARCH VEL and LATCH VEL at 10 and 5 respectively. I even
inverter the differential pins on the Z pulse just to be sure they weren't
backwards but the behaviour is

Thank you guys,
I think I'm going to stick to what I was planning. Use the alarm component
to inhibit the feed or turn off the machine via the motion.enable pin and
use the external e-stop button to turn off the contactors that feed the
servos. I have it this way on the other machines but I can't
Hello guys again,
I'm testing the homing of the X axis with a push button and that works
except when the index pulse has to trigger. That never happens.
I'm using the 7i52S to move my servo with step + dir for position command
right to the drive. In LCNC the stepper is working in velocity mode

Axes working now. I found my error in configuration. The axes were moving
in the commanded direction, but I didn't notice that the encoder was
reading the opposite sign of that direction.
Duh!

motion.enable should theoretically be more reliable than the iocontrol
pins
We are debating a change to the G43 default behaviour in the next
LinuxCNC version.
So:
Has anyone here ever deliberately coded a tool change without a G43?
If so, what was the reason?
