And is Digikey item GH6101-ND compatible with PPMC?
It should be.
You will need pull-up resistors on the two encoder lines, I think the
datasheet says to use 3.9k or something. I have used the GH6102 before,
which
Gene, Why use 12 or 24 volt motors when 5volt or less are
readily available? These lower voltage ones are often used
for simple PIC projects or in toys and would give less
problems as an input for the comparators. Presumably you
could protect the inputs by putting a pair of zener diodes

Any reason these wouldn't work?

My thought is a pyvcp panel will do what you want. If you want it on a
separate panel you may be able to use another monitor to display the pyvcp
panel.

I thought I had a picture of my new pendant on my web pages, but I don't
see it.
Here's a link to an eBay auction for the encoder :

Nice, thanks, though I was hoping to get something of the size of a
large potentiometer.
This would be for adjusting a feed rate override, not for jogging.
I set my eye on DigiKey item GH6101-ND.

All HEDS encoders should be compatible. Possibly you'd need pull-up
resistors,
but I don't think you even need that. These are not differential, so if
you were going to
feed them into an encoder counter, you'd need to
This is probably going to seem like a ridiculously obvious question, but
before I start buying and cutting too much material I wanted to double-check
my understanding of how the various parts of a complete system interact.
The project I'm working on is to build a really comprehensive physical

Guys, would you recommend some inexpensive encoder type hand controls?
I would like to control speed override with a rugged encoder type
rotary control.
