The rest of the systems exit fine. The only difference I can see is that the

Its unlikely. Since the migration, he hasn't been able to use Outlook:mac

Actually it works fine with Outlook 97 version 8.04 (Office 97 SR2).
Apparently deleted item recovery was introduced with version 8.03
Not that I am encouraging anyone to _use_ Outlook 97 of course :)
