The days of the "backup MX" are long gone. And it's really no loss-think
about it: if your MX is unavailable, senders will queue mail (typically
for several days) until it comes back online and then r
Perhaps in your environment it is not required. I can assure you though, that

This is a very small environment with about 5 users so that is why the BES is

Jeff,
Thanks for the link. I went through the different options, but still

We're getting ready to implement an E2k7 Edge server. At present, it's in a
workgroup on its own, and we haven't even done a subscription as yet, i.e.
the bits are installed, but no ports have been opened.
We've run into a few difficulties (not insurmountable, but a bit time

I got the final TOC today and was told FINALLY that the printers have the

I would recommend that you put Edge into a domain - however, it needs to be
a completely separate forest than the one in which you have Exchange
installed. In fac
And the "really big boys" have many MX records with different weights that
give out different values depending on the source IP address.
I remember when Yahoo's MX-record list exceeded 512 bytes and broke SO much
software...
However, somewhat in agreement with Jason - it used to be that you might
Not the case here - we have 2 internet feeds at separate
datacenters/carriers - each has a pair of equally weighted (via MX)
relays - and the preferred route has the preference set in the MX to
enable that.

Yes, but. I'd bet the big boys don't have that second mx pointing directly to
an exchange server, which is what the poster was doing and why we suggested he
remove it.
If he has more than one cuda, then by all means, a second mx would be fine.

Jeff,
The services were all ok.
In one of the processes that I ran I made sure also that I stopped
them and restarted them correctly

They are all running under the admin account. In a more standard

I am in the process of trying to migrate mailboxes from an old Win2003 / Exch

The new server is running Win 2003 and Exch 2003. It is completely patched up
