You can configure Exchange to do an authenticated SMTP connection through
your Smarthost using your FIOS username and pw, using basic authentication.
We have done it and it works, but I would not make
and then they go out

Ouch, ouch and ouch. Forgive me if I missed it, but what kind of anti-spam
and/or anti-virus do you have installed on/along-side-of Exchange
at noon after a big email and then they go out
overnight……

You can configure Exchange to do
files recently. I also had tested using a few long ping periods to various
IP addresses, and received no timeouts.

Is a VE downgrade possible? Is the only known communications problem to be
the 4.4.2 status codes; since also finding your queuing issue?

Any chance Verizon mistakenly published that Class C you're in as being a
dynamic / DHCP range?

We are having a serious problem sending mail out
First I would not worry about nomorefunn much, not a very widely used rbl and
is very out of date. In fact it is pretty hard from someone to actually use it
if they want to.
Hop on your sending server and telnet on port 25 to one of the servers that is
refusing you and manually use the smtp
I have done the telnet thing. If, for example, I telnet to verizon.net, I
will no tmake a connection, however if I telnet to outgoing.verizon.net I am
good. This told me that there may be something wrong with the internal DNS,
so I asked Exchange (nicely, if you please) to use external DNS, but
When I was on the phone with them, that issue really did not come up. I
think the problem is more that the rDNS record disappeared.

You might ask them if they'll let you use one of their servers as a smarthost
until it gets sorted out.
