It also happens the next time you reboot, if you exit from Linux without
unmounting the partitions (typicly, in the case of a power outage).

I have a stock Mandrake 6.1 install (this happens on two systems, one
with the couple of 6.1 updates, one with no updates).
I used linuxconf to set up virtual ip addresses (IP Aliasing). It
doesn't appear to work. There are no aliased interfaces as shown by
ifconfig. I CAN manually ifconfig et

others. Then make sure the number at the beginning of the file

Dear Mandrake tech support,
I've encountered a very strange problem with my Mandrake system -- I'm
using a 3com 3c595 ethernet card that worked fine under NT, and as long
as I keep mandrake under DHCP it handles all port 80 functions fine, but
as soon as I assign a static IP it can't even ping an
Well, I found the problem on my own. The O'Reilly book is missing a -t for ssh
to open a pseudo-terminal. That fixed that problem but I'm still having others.

This doesn't answer your question... but search for vpnd at www.freshmeat.net.
That's a pretty good vpn solution. We run it at our company without any

Has anybody set up a VPN using ssh? I've been trying to do it following the
instructions in the O'Reilly book "Virtual Private Networks" as well as the VPN

When I do /usr/sbin/pppd on the slave machine I get garbage as expected.
