I've found out that the problem is related to gdm, when using kdm as a login
page these things don't happen and I can log into whichever desktop or
windowmanager as user.
Now I need to know where I can change the default login page from gdm to kdm,
in SuSE this is done in /etc/rc.config, in Man

Hi all!
One day when I wanted to boot into Mandrake 7.2 as user on my homebox, I
couldn't get into KDE2 or HelixGnome or anything else at the login page. As
root it was OK, so I changed /etc/inittab into runlevel 3, boot again and
tryed to log into X using 'kde' as command, but it didn't work.
My default value for $DISPLAY is
:0.0
rather than
unix:0.0
Perhaps this accounts for it? I don't have a clue, I must admit, what
xbobo is. Are you running this on the local machine in fact? What if
you change DISPLAY to :0.0?

Hi. I've been looking around for the answer to this little problem and
haven't fount it, so if this has been answered before just point me to
the link, ok? that's good :)
Have you tried to start xkobo on MDK7.0? it won't let you. The error
message is
Xlib: connection to "unix:0.0" refused by se
Well, of _course_ if you are running as root and doing stuff in the
user's directory any files you create are owned by root.
The real solution: don't do that.
The real fix after you've done it: in the same directory,
chown -R user.user .
For user "user".

That was what I've done. But that's not a _real_ solution ! Please

When you login as a user then su to root and startx for the first time,
it sounds like the authentication files are being set up for root.
Delete the user, recreate the user, login as the user, startx as the
user and see how that works.

I would like one effect I have noted concerning the
shimmering effect will running KDE or any other gui.
(refer to post entitled "X problems")
I have found if I do a Ctrl-alt-F2 and then Ctrl-alt-F7
back this clears the problem for 10-30 seconds , then
it reappears.

I am running LM 6.1 and have been using it for the last
6 months or so, without any problem.
The last fews days I have been having problems with
a shimmering effect on my desktop (KDE,Gnome,ect.).
For instance if I look at a border in this window there
is a very apparent sawtooth effect running a
