First of all: under root means two chords superimposed. Use 'as subtext' for
bass notes. And it works in both cases: manual input and type into score.

By the way: I would use the piano brace only for keyboard staves. Quick work
in the setup wizzard shows you how finale would arrange the woodwinds.
