I feel this way too and always work with engraver slurs off. I've seen so many people having trouble with it that I feel good with this decision. The engraver slurs need need tweaking anyway. And since articulations can be taken into consideration in the placement I still get some benefits too. But

I've been playing back a full band score of something I've just
written, and yes, there are intonation problems, esp. in full, loud
chords. I'm not sure it's the oboe, but they certainly are there.
