you're right, it looks fine in the PDF after Compile PS Listing.

EPS. But it should print at full resolution. When it was first
changed from the previous high-quality preview (I think I remember
that happening in 2003!) I complained, and was told it was because of
the way Apple handled

Nope -- at least, not on my 2006 MacBook Pro. I'm not sure about the newer
laptops without the embedded numpad.
