.625 /2 in the composite time signature box would give you what you want, with
5/16 for display.

Finale 2014.5 is not compatible with Sierra, period, the toolbar issue being
only the most obvious issue. Gotta switch to the new version.

or not; I have to
re-enter the staff style in the part to get it to stick. This is maddening.
Anyone have any insights?

I would use the Tempo Tap feature for this.

Don’t know if this will be enough to help, but in the text box dialog you can
change from “attached to page” to “attached to measure.” It will remove manual
positioning, but it will then survive cutting and pasting, and it would be less
work than recreating everything as expressions.

You have to turn off “Simplify Spelling” in the Chord Tool Menu. I am
embarrassed to say it took me over two decades of using Finale before I found
this out.
Interestingly (or perhaps not), you can fool the system: D-triple-flat will
show as C-flat with Simplify Spelling turned on.

This is a known bug in 2014.5. You can’t create a Metatool for the Staff Tool.

Glen,
This sounds to me like what happens when there’s a forbidden character in the
file name. Do you by chance have a slash or a colon in the name of the file?

, and in layer 2, it’s
the correct sound, but grace notes and the notes that follow them are not
playing back at all.
I’ve submitted this to MakeMusic support and gotten no response thus far. Any
ideas from this illustrious group would be MOST appreciated.

You might try copying the music, deleting the staff, creating a new staff, and
pasting the music back in. I’ve had good luck with that technique getting rid
of phantom pitch bends.

I believe if you select a number of measures (with the Measure Tool selected),
and type a large minimum width in the text box labeled as such, they will all
nicely settle into the same width once you've locked the system and updated the
layout.

This is a playback question: if I want to have, say, a violin gliss through a
couple of otherwise empty measures, how on earth do I get Finale to play that
back correctly?
If it's not clear: think of one bar in which the violin plays a top string E,
then glisses upward over the next two bars
You'll need to call MakeMusic tech support and have them reset the
authorizations for your machine, at the very least.

If you're using Audio Units, go to MIDI/AudioInstrument SetupAudio Units
Instruments. There's a volume slider there that's set well below the maximum
level by default. Other than that, open the Mixer and make sure both your
instrument and the master fader are set to max.

Can't help you with the MIDI map question, but an effective workaround for
creating ritards is to use the Tempo Tap tool, available in Studio View.
