Actually, that's not entirely true. Unicode defines a set of code points, 1114112 (up to 10 in hexadecimal) to be exact (I think), and that's all. These are notated as U+, where is a hexadecimal digit, for example U+0055 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER U, U+03B4 GREEK SMALL LETTER DELTA, and U+1D

In Mac OS X, the best way to install a new font is to double-click the font. I have successfully used free IPA fonts in OS X. I can't remember the name now, but it was easy -- certainly much easier than creating custom graphics! If the first font you downloaded doesn't work, try another.

David, Not sure if you're on Mac or PC, but I think the issue is the same. Because a non-unicode font is limited to 255 characters (actually less, for various reasons), unicode fonts need to "map" the glyphs to different positions in the font. Unicode has a much larger range (65535, I think) so
