Robert Patterson has kindly completely sorted this for me. His plugin solved it
without needing to redo anything.

Use MusicXML !!!
I haven't experienced losing items, but I had all sorts of HP problems
with an old template I had to use on a project.
I exported to MusicXML and re-imported into Finale 2014. (Actually I
think I did both export and import on 2014) That solved the problems.
Obviously there w
It happens with 2012 also, part of it appears to be a Windows 8 issue, I do
not see the same sub directories with saving and opening files. Have
wasted so much time trying to get IPA syllables in a Warm-up and after I
kinda get it right, the file either won't open or disappears.

I would recommend opening the templates in their original version and
running data check on them. Then open them in Fin14 and run data check on
them again. Save the result as a Fin14 template and see if you continue to
have the problem.

Two things.
Firstly, the name of the score in score manager doesn't survive closing the
file.
Secondly, text boxes with inserts disappear when the file is closed and
re-opened.
I couldn't get further with tech support. These things didn't happen with new
files created from the wizard and they

Personally I am skeptical that the upgraded templates are the source of
your problem. It's possible, I suppose, but I would want more than the word
of a tech support person to believe it. When you say things are
disappearing, what does that mean?

I’m also worried that whatever is causing the disappearance of items is going
to get transferred by importing my libraries.

Don't document options save to libraries?
I get my line parameters and defined expressions, when I load my customized
library to scratch documents.
One aspect not loaded to library is line thickness of smart shape lines.

I was dreading that that might be the solution..
I was hoping that Finale might store them in a text file somewhere…
Are there any gotchas?
I need libraries, document settings, details of any page items.. anything else?
Thanks!

I have a small but time consuming problem with items disappearing.
Tech support have told me it is because I’m using a template made in a Finale
version before 2014 and that I should create new Templates in 2014.
Almost every setting is tweaked as well as a lot of carefully placed items, so

In 2.6.3 you had to use EMEL macros for certain things that were not built
into the Finale UI. EMEL macros were the precursor to plugins.

I know you can change all of those things in 3.5.2 (as I look at my open
copy of it) and I think you can in 2.6.3. Earlier, I'm not sure.

from the F2001 installation CD i was able to just drag the factory
default file off the disk to my desktop.
i'd like to have a range of defaults, but don't need them all. just
want to do a basic comparison of the same file using defaults from
different versions.

Hi Jef,
I have Mac install disks going back to 1.0 for most versions in the
pre-Maestro era, and a G3 laptop with a floppy drive. I guess I'd have to
do some sort of install to get to the templates, right? Not a ton of room
on the hard drive but maybe I could install just what you need. Are you

Hi everyone---I've noticed that my jazz ensemble template is looking tiny and
this is after I've been careful about things like line thickness and other
tweaks. Everything looks very small and crowded. How do I make this template
maintain the settings I've given it?
Thanks in advance---Brian
