There are two different ways you can fix this.
(1) Update your developer tools. You can get the 10.1 developer tools
either as part of the twenty dollar os10.1 upgrade cds or, if you have a
decent connection, by downloading them from apple.
(2) If you use install things using sudo dselect ins

visudo, as well as vipassed and vigr use whatever editor is in the
EDITOR variable...i like nano
in .bash_profile
EDITOR='nano'
export EDITOR
tcsh is slightly different...
