I can't resist a reply here to any way they want. I'm an Easterner but
most of our rules about horses come from the British who among other
places settled in parts of Canada. The problem with any way they want is
apparent in the way people

I also forgotthe Unrau's have lost foals to cougars from their herd that
runs out.
LIvestock guarding dogs are not a threat to people, as far as I know. Big,
fuzzy.and friendlyexcept not to predators.
If cougars are a normal part

What ever happens to Fjord show standards, I have one request. don't forget
the entry level owner who
would like to show in some more 'relaxed' classes. I'm sure I'm not the only
person who does not want to
make a carreer out of

long and 4 3/4 wide so Valley Vet recommended the pads to fill in width. I
had my farrier measure

Dear Jean and list, I have come across a cougar twice, each time in the very
early morning hours during cow calving season. Each time he saw me he took
off, thank goodness, but fired a shot anyway. On a good horse with a dog.
Can your

Hi, just what kind of stock dogs would drive off a cougar and also not be
dangerous to people? Jean PS I am in a rush so have not had time to read
all of my mail. Our newspaper is going to give me coverage about the cougar
which should alert

It's very gratifying to see the many, many comments on appropriate performance
attire and trappings; pros and cons.. some good points made.
How I wish that all of you who wrote to me off-list would write ON-list and

Ruthie,
I did not write you offline, have not yet had a chance! :)
However, I must say it is highly bothersome to see so much emphasis put on
clothing versus the horse. I mean, has anyone seen some of the mini shows?

Jean,
I live in southern California in an equestrian community that borders the
Santa Rosa Wildlife Preserve, which is inhabited by cougars. Many people use
the

Janet you are right on. I am a true beleaver in the value of imprinting and

Jean,
My grandpa was an outfitter ranch hand years ago in Estes Park Co. Grandma
wrote story after story about
cougars trying to get into the horse barn, seems that horses are high on their
list of preferred prey.

Having heard debate by some about the value of imprint training, just want to
say that last night imprint
training (and that marvelous sensible Fjord temperment) saved my 2 month old
filly's leg.
My horses delighted that it had cooled off,

Teresa K., I really appreciated your even handed
comments about standards.
Yes, there is a time to dress up and a time to be
casual and that is in showing your horse and in the
everyday work/non-work world. One of the things I love

There were 11 Advanced Single ponies at the Laurels vying for National
Ch. honors. After dressage Mira was fifth, only tenths of a point out
of fourth but 16 points off the lead. It was not my best test, two of
the judges had me fourth,

I asked about this earlier thisy ear. We have been

Being new to driving and to Fjords, I find this discussion on
driving show attire interesting. I went to the driving class day at
Woodstock, VT this year (what a gorgeous place!) and I was impressed with
all the driving turnouts, aprons, gloves,
