Cynthia, Gunnar is a son of Grabb and has the same heavy fur you are
describing for Tank. Pretty in the late spring and early summer, then Yak
the rest of the time. Jean

I can tell you that weight has nothing to do with
coat. Tank has gone from really fat to nicely slim
with the same coat. Climate location does not seem to
have much to do with it either as he has the same coat
in both Nebraska and southern N

Hi,
I have noticed that my stallion Anvil's Borgen keeps a fairly short coat
compared to the geldings and most of the mares. I agree with that
nutrition plays an important role in the coat. Some horse just seem to
get longer coats than oth

Sounds like a good theory to me, Mary. My vast knowledge of Fjord coats is
limited to two. The mare is drafty and has put her coat on already. The
gelding is much lighter (sport type) and still is slick. So your theory
works in my bar

OK, Mary, I will now throw your theory all out of wack!
Stella, Line's daughter, born in Norway, has the shorter coat, thick and
plush in the winter, but not so long and shaggy. So does Bjorken, her son,
sired by Anvil's Rikolv. Both are th

OK, guys, I did come up with a 'theory' as to why some
Fjords become 'winter fuzzy' e

I live in Arkansas and mine is already coating up. She was bred here and has
lived in Arkansas or Tennessee all her 12 years. Warm Octobers can be hard
on her, but so far this summer has been mild and hopefully Fall will be too.

Gunnar is getting his coat for the winter. darn, I noticed last week that
his sleek appearance was fading into his, "isn't he too fat or is that just
all that hair?" look. Jean in Aberdeen, WA

This is an interesting subject for me because I've been trying to figure out
a pattern with my horses. I have 11 Fjords right now -

I've got two fjords here in Denver, both on the same diet and living side by
side. The mare started blowing her coat the beginning of August and is now
in a thick, short coat. The gelding is letting go of his summer coat, but I
haven't

My gelding, "Sven" has been shedding his summer coat since early August and
is becoming fuzzier every day!! Lena is a couple weeks behind Sven's
schedule. Sure isn't related to temperature as it has been warm, humid and
heading for 90 over the upcoming

did when I got home was go and say hello to Lars. He is getting a fuzzy coat

in Alaska. Anyone in the
