Re: Euthanasia of horses in Washington State...
I just heard from my VERY respected vet that putting down an otherwise
healthy horse IS permissible in Washington as long as the LEGAL owner OK's
it.
I just got my WSU news (Washington State University Equi

Well put Emily! And in response to your plea for education: I was a
pro-animal person my whole life, and participated in dog rescue.
But I had no idea that horses were being slaughtered in America for human
consumption in some other countries.
I mean truly no idea.

We can talk about responsibility, good breeders, bad breeders,
euthanasia, what this vet said and what that said and what they do in
China for population control. Democracy??or what have ya, but the
bottom line is money no matter what faction yo

One of the hardest things to do, putting a pet down. Runs pretty close to how
we feel about our children. I've been dealing with a pony that had many
issues, but I'm not ready to let him go. He isn't older, just 12yrs., and he
still wants his dinner. He has good

So, what we need to do is SELF REGULATE. That is the same as being
responsible.
Exactly! Self regulating is best done, in my opinion, through
education. Stand tall when you explain why you bought that horse
(foal or adult) instead of breeding another. S

Hi Jean!Well the idea, in the abstract, is a good one, but in
actuality/practice it becomes FACISM. So as much as we may like there to be
laws that dictate how many kids or how many horses a person can create, it
can't be done in a democracy.
So, what we need to

Maybe there should be laws against people who can't take care of them having too
many children, too, like China has?

My two cents on this: when my mare (not a fjord) became seriously
ill she was at the big vet center in the area they had done
what they could with her medically and financially for us within our
budget (she was an older mare also) . we discus
re to try and change
people's minds and actions and pitch in where we can to promote adoption/rescue
over breeding and humane euthanasia over slaughter.

Laura, I'm wondering why you are "stirring" the pot in the way that you did?
What is your intention?
It seems, by your questions, that you may be trying to say that you think
people who are against horse slaughter

Just to stir up the pot! Is everyone who is against horse slaughter also
against the slaughter of ALL other animals - chickens, cows, fish, etc?

Guess I have to add my two cents worth to this.
I don't see why some have their shorts in a wad about eating horse meat
in other countries. I believe they have been doing this for years in
Europe and elsewhere. What is better? Seeing a
