What I had originally was a component wrapped with a vbox. My "stuff",
including the checkbox, was all inside.
I changed it to a canvas on the outside - with a vbox wrapping
everything I want to disable, using x=0

Pretty much the same way you would deploy the static HTML portion of a regular app.
Create the HTML and .swf files in Flex Builder, then copy to the server webroot using FTP, ANT, file copy, rcp etc.
