Brian,
wow - thanks for the step-by-step instructions below! I check against
your list and the only thing I do different for the base setup is to
go straight to WinXP Pro SP3 (as that's what I have as an install disk
here).

Hi Tim,
well, as I said: The F-5kA *is* showing up in the driver control panel
and the driver does not complain about not finding the device.
So, in my state of reasoning and cause analysis, I'd rule out the
FireWire low-level and driver level interfaces/connections/software.

Hi Tom,
Are talking about using your 5000 on 6M in the ARRL June VHF contest this
last weekend? If so ,the 5000 needs an external preamp connected to the RX1

band. The 6M noise figure is pretty high without one, but on
I tried to use the line in audio input of the FLEX-5000A today with the VOX

Is that the intended operation?
I checked the manual and didn't see anything to indicate that VOX only works

Tom,
Glad that you are enjoying the radio..When you say that the receiver
is hard of hearing, if you are going by the S-meter, it is very
accurately verses some other receivers (like the IC706) where the S

I the box thru the paces over the weekend, the ease of operation and the

audio processing made ther difference.
I had some high Q rates on sat and still was able to pick some off using the

Hi,
I just noticed today on all versions of SDR that on 30 meters (the only
band I've noticed it so far) , there is a distinct low level whine
between the frequencies of 10.109.769 and 10.102.139. Tuning through
those freq's the whine will start and stop, however it remains when SDR
is stopped, whe

A couple of other things, when you installed the driver, you should

The latest Test Branch SVN 3166, which according to the change log, "redone

There will be a slight voltage drop when transmitting and a 0.2 VDC drop is
nothing to worry about. It looks like you have a well regulated power supply.
Due to the smaller footprint of the FLEX-3000, it has less thermal mass than
the FLEX-5000 (obviously), therefore it is going to heat up a bi

I do have a working communication connection between the Mac mini and
the F-5kA as the driver successfully loads and I can see the F-5kA
being shown correctly as a bus device in the driver control panel. So
there *is* a working connection between those two.
