I read several posts about using a external tuner with the 3000. The one thing
I fail to see is how do you turn off the internal tuner in the 3000. The posts
say they set up power sdr to give a 5-10 watt carrier when they hit the tune
button,I agree with that ,but also when you hit the tune
Click the Bypass (BYP) button and the internal tuner in the FLEX-3000 is no
longer in the RF signal path.

Tip for PL-259 users: Some PL-259 fittings use a very deep barrel
(the outside hatched part that you turn to connect to a SO-239). As
a result, even when the PL-259 is turned all the way on, the
connecter proper is loose inside the barrel, and can wiggle and move
in and out. VERY BAD,

Barry,
The reason is that the PA board has to be removed from the chassis/heat sink
in order to install a higher power DC connector for the 60W model. That is
not a field installable option. The original design plan for the FLEX-5000
was to offer only a 30W 2m upgrade. We decided to make the

Here's a fun coincidence - I just read the upcoming QST review of the Flex
3000 on their web site.
I just finished reading the review, turned on my Flex 3000 on 14,245 and
there was W1AW - I worked Ron
on my first call - probably two minutes after reading the review.
I was interested to see
I thought it was a pretty good review overall, I agree about some of the
documentation, and I also think that it is something that all of the current
rig manufacturers could work on.

Hi Flexers
I've noticed during A-B rig testing that the 'pop' caused by the coax switch
tends to kill the gain in the AM mode for anywhere from 1-2 secs, to even 10
seconds at times...
Is there a NB adjustment or is it an AGC-T issue...?
I've noticed that if I select a different mode and

I've experienced that gain TC issue with 1.18.2 but hadn't gotten around
to experimenting for cause. Thanks for doing that.
As for 1.8 mhz, I just received an ICE '402X BCB Filter assy.'.
(high pass) That's the ticket for improving 160m performance, but
doesn't really address your question.
Jordan,
In reference to your AGC comments, I have observed exactly the same behavior as
I use the AM mode frequently. There is a bug report, 2240, that addresses this
issue. It was introduced in 1.18.1 and I sure hope it gets fixed as it is quite
annoying and a step backwards for AM
Thanks for the heads-up guys, I'm glad to know it's not an isolated event
I'm going to make up a small manual pre-selector and see how that goes, as I'd
like to use the rig on LW as well as the bcb
I rcvd an ICE high pass filter that makes a world of difference in the noise
floor above
I see you found the ESP mode button. :-)

Any chances that newly shipped FLEX-5000's could have this higher power DC
connector already in place, thus allowing field upgradeable 60 watt versions
for newly shipped 5000's?

So far the 5K doesn't like much antenna in the BCB, and LW is still awash in
spurs, noise, ghosts etcAs I tune across the BCB I can see several spurs
tuning at rates from 1/2 to x3 the rate I'm tuning, sometimes in the same
direction, sometimes the opposite
Tomorrow I'll try some sort
