Hi Neal
I am not sure what I missed lately .
Some good examples:
Yaesu leaks FT-5000 mysterious images one month . a month or so later users
have radios.
Apple leaks Iphone 4G . it kills sales of iphone 3G as everyone waits . so
4G better get released quick for Apples sake.

My advice is to refrain from forecasting a delivery date until all show-stopper
risks have been eliminated.
In my experience (22 years leading Rational Software's Product Group and
engaging with its customers, which included Cisco and nearly every other
company you mention below), the probabil
Thanks Gerald . that wasn't so hard . you could almost run for politics now
. you said a lot without really saying anything and I bet people are mostly
happy to at least have been informed about the progress. We are all trying
to be on the same team. Thank you.

And I once heard that the best software programmer is an engineer ... there
won't be many bells or whistles, no fancy graphics, just some code that
mostly works ... but on the bright side it is good enough a lot sooner. Haha

Dave, You do have a point, but I spent over 10 years at Cisco Systems, you know
the guys who's equipment and software pretty much run the internet backbone.
In the 10 years I was at Cisco, we never had a "DUE" date,,, When the new
equipment or software was right, it would be release. People s
There should be a point in every software project where all show-stopper
risks have been identified and resolved (including new risks discovered in
the process of resolving known risks). Forecasting delivery dates before
reaching this milestone is like trying to teach a pig to sing; it wastes

Well if you look at it from a different point of view, my 5K works great with
the present release code, and when 2.0 comes out. I'll give it a few weeks and
wait for 2.01 so I don't have to deal with any bugs or issues, software is
complex and a programmer is always going to miss something, and
Being involved in commercial products with a substantial software
component I can see Flex's new position to be hesitant to keep
estimating ship dates. "planned", "approximately", etc. quickly become
dates cast in stone in the customer's mind. Often times it's only after
a key issue is resolved
Kevin,
We are damned if we do and damned if we don't. Your place in the queue is
determined by the date of your pre-order. Many people feel that being in
the pre-order queue has value, given that the radios have to be scheduled
into our office over time for the upgrade.
I will give you the best
There are two extremes
1. Giving a date you cannot achieve for shipping
2. Telling the customer it will be ready when its ready
Kevin you are correct Flex is being arrogant. People will understand if you
give a date and miss it as long as you attach an explanation for it.
But saying it is ready w
Hi Kevin
You must have missed the exchanges a couple of weeks ago with a few users
proclaiming loss of faith (and worse) at the plans that Gerald would
frequently make to the user community. He has gotten bitten several times by

Tim ... I know this is the company line now ... BUT
It is kind of difficult to NOT make forward looking statements while asking
your potential customers to PREORDER.
Ie: there was a V/U product announcement with lots of details and I got an
order confirmation on Oct 29 last year stating I would ge
FlexRadio has stopped making forward looking announcements related to ship
dates for hardware and software products, so you are not going to hear anything
until products are actually shipping.
When the FLEX-VU5K and the FLEX-1500 become fully available, there will be

I am using a my F5K as a second receiver for my current IF radio so that I
can use the panfall display. The problem is, if I set my transverter bands
to be RX only, that setting transfers to ALL of the "standard" bands. I
have to keep the setup form open to disable TX inhibit and set the power
Here are the applicable benefits for the SDR-100
- Wide Band Image Rejection (WBIR)
(but you must calibrate the RX image rejection on all bands to baseline WBIR
and that can be problematic with the SDR-1000 unless you have a RF signal
generator (source) for 160-6)
- Rework of the ring buffers f
As I understand it, the design of the F5K preamp was to ensure a high (actually
a very high: > +39 dBm) IP3 value. As such it does not provide a lot of gain
on 6m which is needed for weak signal work.
The FLEX-3000 and FLEX-1500's preamps were designed for sensitivity, not
blocking dynamic ran

I'm curious as to why the 5000 needs a 6M preamp? I assume the 3000 and

Sorta bad/good news here but my xyl's new business has reduced my ham time to
zero with no relief in sight. I'm downsizing and starting with the most recent
major purchase, my FLEX-5000.
