A while back there was some discussion about using amplifiers such as
the HFPacker amp, Tokyo Hi Power, etc. with the Flex 1500. I thought I'd
report some results of an experiment here.
I love QRP operation but one thing that attracted me to the Flex 1500
was the ability to try out SDR for
Tim,
Instead of using the Flexwire port, it would be simpler to build a simple
optically-isolated keying buffer to go between the rig the amp. Or, N0AX
has a kit for $15 that will do the job. Got to htytp://hamgadgets.com,
click on Shop, then look for the Universal Keying Adapter 2.
73, Ray,
You are correct. Amp and transverter keying is done using the FlexWire port
for the FLEX-1500.

Don,
Since the ATU is still part of the 2.0 Beta, yes, it should technically go
into the FlexEdge.
First, go to the ATU menu by clicking the ATU button at the top of
PowerSDR. What do you have the SWR Target and SWR Successful fields set
to?
If you want the absolute best attempt to lower the
I'd like to hear from anyone using the 5000A on the satellites. I'm
interested in the software you are using, rotor control, and of course any
quirks or issues you've encountered. I'm thinking of clearing out my shack
including the FT-847 and trying the 5000A with VHF/UHF module.

I plan to set up my new 1500 this afternoon. What would be the recommended
version of power sdr to use? My 1500 was shipped last thursday, is the firmware

one shot package ,download it and run it?? or is there
There has been some testing with SatPC32 and RadioTuner by W6IHG with the V/U
module. Both look like they will work fine.

PowerSDR v2.0.7 was just announced on the FlexEdge reflector. I'd use that one.
Read the release notes for info regarding firmware updates.

That is a good point. The SSBs I use are in VOX mode right now since I don’t
have an amp to drive high power which would require RX/TX switching and
dedicated DC power, so the power is on all the time. Fortunately I have not
had any problems. Keeping the fingers crossed.

And it does a good job of it too. I don’t think W6IHG is improving it anymore,

Tim is correct.
You can set it up and get running under 2.0.7 with the factory
installed driver 0.4.1.2. When you are comfortable, you can upgrade
to 0.4.1.4 to get the sidetone volume control running. No other
impact or need for firmware upgrade at this time.

Brian,
On my current satellite radio (IC-910) there is no need to run separate power
cables to the antenna mounted pre amps. They are switched in and out by
software.
Separate power cables to the pre amps, and manual switching are, at least to me,
NOT ACCEPTABLE. Particular on a (very good)

Setting up the 1500 with 2.07, works great. I need to use a stright key with
the rig, plugged into the key jack. what settings do I need to change power sdr
to work with the stright key? tried several ,but none seem to work. rig seems
to go into oscillation when keyed.

Peter et al,
Winmor is not intended to be a Pactor III replacement. It is designed to
have as high a data rate as possible given the legal limitations of HF
while being very robust. It is also limited by being a sound card mode.

Tim,
I was rather thinking of connecting the output of the (my) SCS modem
to the Flex and have the best of both worlds. Also in maritime mobile
application, it sure would enhance e-mail access, given the superior attributes
of the Flex system.
Just thinking out loud.
