Neal - you're probably right as the action is definitely tied to the schedule of the Disk Defragmenter of once a week. I would like to understand this more if there is someone knowledgeable on the subject. 73, Steve K5FR -Original Message- From: Neal Campbell [mailto:nealk...@me.com] Se

There is something called a bootloader defrag that I have seen done by these performance utilities that grabs up all the stuff needed to get a machine powered up into windows, so maybe thats what it is. its probably done as a stage in the full disk defrag and since it doesn't do a full disk d

Steve you're correct, even if the Disk Defragmenter showed never defrag the SSD (C:) it did it anyway as evidenced by my event log. However, the event message was "The disk defragmenter successfully completed boot optimization on SSD (C:)" and not the normal message of "The disk defragmenter succes

Thanks for all the help... still searching for the problem though. I did have it working a couple of weeks ago. I worked the 160M CW contest and used N1MM to key the exchange. It worked like a charm. I must have changed something somewhere but I don't know what that is. I had two serial ports

Maybe it's supposed to, but it didn't disable the auto-defrag on my SSD. I don't know how it would know which drives were SSD (I have two, a primary and a backup, plus a regular SATA drive) unless it is smart enough to detect the drive type. The way this came up is that DDUtil was disconnecting f

Steve, First -- N1MM does not support CW via a sound card ( vac ) interface.. Second -- You need to have a CW keying method (serial port pair) seperate from your CAT and PTT interfaces. In PowerSDR this is configured in SETUP>DSP>Keying>Connections>Secondary. ( Your Paddles may use the Pri

From Windows 7 onward (maybe even in Vista but I haven't checked), Windows turns off the auto defrag for SSD drives so you do not need to worry. You can also set the time that the auto defrag of conventional drives (it defaults to 2am on Wednesdays). I usually nudge it back to 3am. 73 On 12/8/

Some of what you are saying is true and some is not. Indeed windows does schedule a weekly defrag of your hard drives . If one of your drives is an SSD you should disable it for that drive and only that drive. It is useful to keep a conventional hard drive tuned and has no affect on performanc

I thought I was pretty good at this... I had PowerSDR, N1MM, and a plethora of other CAT/VAC based programs working harmoniously together. Last contest I used N1MM to key CW and it worked liked a charm. I don't remember changing anything on the system, but obviously I must have tweaked something.
