Jon, I do not know how you determined that the FLEX-5000A is no longer available from Flex. It is still listed on their website. In fact, all of the FLEX series radios are available at a discounted price at the present time. Undoubtedly this is in step with the discounts available at the Dayton

Hi, I'm new to the group and pretty new to flex. I have a 1500 that I have had for a couple months and have had a really good time with it. In fact, I've had it long enough that I would like to upgrade. This brings me to my dilemma. I can't really afford the new 6700 and was at first looking at th

Thanks to all for the comments. Will pursue this further as I continue to learn more about the radio. It's a long, long way from the Hallicrafter SX-101 that was the first receiver here back in '76, so I'm ramping up on it. mike k5wmg On Wed, Jun 22, 2011 at 9:38 AM, Tim Ellison wrote: > The S-

The S-meter on all Flex radios is calibrated like a RF spectrum analyzer to S9 = -73 dBm = 50 uV, so what you are seeing ins actual power in the RX pass band. Since you are seeing integrated power, the size of the RX filter is a determining factor. If you are using a 3K filter, change it to 500 H

Well, give it a chance, Mike. It may just be a question of different S-meter calibration. The real determining factor is whether or not it can hear weak signals in the noise as well as your previous receiver. You can test this by setting up some sort of A/B switching. The 1500 has its faults, but i

Mike, Are you sure that your other radio is in calibration? The Flexes are very accurate in respect to their signal level indication, so if you are getting S5 (with the antenna connected, I hope), it means that you are getting -97 dBm noise in the selected bandwidth. If you connect either rec

Still setting up a 1500 here and the issue of the moment is noise threshold. I am in the country and the radio I removed to replace with the 1500 had a noise level of S1 or so. With the 1500, I am up around S5 as baseline noise level. Nothing else has changed. The receiver is hotter, but not trem
