The main thing that solved the problem was turning up
the buffers for all output codecs in XMMS.
It also helped to go to the KDE sound system and raise
that sound buffer and enable high priority.

Hello.
I've compiled "device sound" into my kernel, yet my Creative
Sound Blaster Audigy LS isn't detected at boot-up.
I take it that I do not need loader.conf settings if I already
have sound compiled into my kernel?
I am aware of that patch.
But it's already in
working properly. Problem is I cannot just switch jacks using
wires because this is a laptop.
In Linux I could just add AC97_QUIRK=1 to my configuration and it would make
the sound right ... but I cannot seem to find an equivelant in FreeBSD.
Is there some kind of kernel option or even a source

I'll try this on FreeBSD-Questions first, then FreeBSD-Stable if I
don't get an answer here; not sure which is best. I run
FreeBSD-Stable (4.10) with two sound cards: a SoundBlaster AWE64 and
a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I use two because I can't get full duplex
with one.
I'v

Hello,
I have an Yamaha OPL3SA2 sound card, isa-pnp.
I had last year installed FreeBSD 5.2.1, and my sound card was supported, I had
to add "device pcm" in the kernel configuration file.
Now I installed FreeBSD 5.4, and I can't make my sound card to work.
"device pcm"

loaded sound / snd_ess
dmesg shows:
pcm0: port 0xd800-0xd8ff irq 5 at device 8.0 on pci0
pcm0: cannot allocate DMA memory
device_attach: pcm0 attach returned 6
pcm0: port 0xd800-0xd8ff irq 5 at device 8.0 on pci0
pcm0: cannot allocate DMA memory

Don't know about the error.
But for getting the sound support, you can also
simply load the sound modules:
# kldload sound
# kldlo
trying to get sound support on dell latitude cpt (466)
maestro2
this is the error i get while the kernel compiles:

did you tried to load all snd_ drivers?
