Hello FreeDOS community! Hope I'm doing this right, believe it or not
this is my first ever time using a mailing list in my almost three
decades of being 'an IT guy'.
I posted on the FreeDOS Facebook some weeks (months?) back about a text
editor I found called FTE.

I am trying to format a bunch of old disks but FreeDOS format command
always fails with Error 53.
The disks are mostly OK and do format if I boot from diskette with
MS-DOS 3.1 and use that format or under FreeDOS if I format with XTree Gold.

Couldn't the Freedos Kernel be updated to work that way? [Outside my
skill set] Should I raise a bug / enhancement request?

The character is in position 198.
Can you check to issue ALT+198 (with the numeric pad) and see the
character you find, with codepage 850 or 858 loaded? It would be to see
where the problem is.
Nevertheless, can you share your AUTOEXEC.BAT so that we can see your
system's configuration?

it on the DOS Ain't Dead forum. It is an AWK script and it is named
epub2txt.awk. It "shells out" to other utilities to do much of the
