I'd suggest either a Pioneer DVR-K05 or Matshita/Panasonic UJ-845, either
will work great. I chose for my TiBook the Pioneer unit, under US$90

You already said that. :)
Yep, it is possible it is plain broke. The guy I bought it from said
it stopped working, well when he dropped a gallon paint can on top of
that corner (with the screen open). Yeah, I pictured a totally
crushed corner too. But, no serious damage to the palm rest

I'd say a critical question is, Why does the DVD work, but the audio CD does
not? I'm assuming the DVD audio is fine, correct? If so, then clearly there
is no laser registration issue, and the fact that DVD audio works indicates the
audio circuitry in the drive is fine. Are you
Actually I have several things to try yet re the combo drive. These
were data disks so really wasn't considering whether there was an
audio disk issue. Apparently there are some files though that can
get corrupted that I can try removing. Apparently resetting the pmu

Interesting. Dan A had already sent me the file, but it doesn't open
as a text file if it is 'saved' to disk. If it is just drug, then it
does open as text file for me.
Either way, it didn't work after restart. So much for that Apple

Hello all
I have a question, I thought someone here might be able to help me. I
have a PowerBook and although I've had it for over a year, I just now
have begun to try to burn a DVD. I have tried the Finder, Toast, and
Burnz -- and all with no luck. The Finder does not even recognize

Ricky,
Check CD's DVD's under System Preferences. What is in the scroll
box for When you insert a blank DVD:? If Ignore is selected, that
may be the problem. Try selecting Ask what to do.
