Hi:
I have two laptops with no sound, a Wallstreet G3 and an Orange iBook.
Neither machine gives a Startup Sound, Modem Dial Sound nor will they play Music
CD's.
The G3 is running OS 8.1 and the iBook OS 9.2. I believe I have tried all the
sound/volume controls.
I bought my first Mac in
I know I know, why am I putting Windows on my Mac?
I need it for one application that MS won't port to Mac.
I had Virtual PC 5.0 with OS 10.2.8 and Win 2k and sound worked fine.
Now with Windows XP, Virtual PC tells me there is something wrong with
my version of OS X and I need to update it to g

Thanks Dan -
Dunno for sure. If you're brave you can open it up and reseat the sound card
there. At least it's cheaper than buying a new one. If your machine can't
find the device it's either bad or not seated properly. Being intermittent
would indicate to me a sloppy or loose connection.

It's a 667MHz G4 powerbook - so does that still apply? - thanks, Barry

You don't say what model computer you have. If it's a beige G3 your
personality card most likely needs to be re-seated.

Thanks for the info - I've heard a lot about static charges, but I'm not
sure that applies in my case. I've restarted a few times, but problem is
unchanged. My local mac dealer has suggested doing 'Software Restore', so
I'll do that, though I suspect some damage to the speakers ...

Can anyone help?
The sound on my G4 powerbook has gone (running 10.2.4). Nothing (except if
I plug in the earphones, I get loud intermittent sounds in the right
channel as I work. Insert a cd and I-Tunes won't play it.
If I go to System Preferences and open the Sound panel, I find all the
options
Thanks. Someone suggested power manager on another list. Sure enough,
that worked. I didn't have sound in 9 either.

I lost sound on my Pismo all of a sudden. All I've tried is rebooting.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I got some message about not
being able to load sound or something, which I dismissed without noting
what it said.
