Even without the antenna, the Mac itself should still be able to "see" the
card plugged into the slot, even if it's got no range. The Mac literally
doesn't think anything is plugged into the slot.

I've tried TWO different cards, both of which the seller says have been
tested. I've seated them, re-seated them, rebooted, pressed the CUDA
button, repaired disk permissions, everything I can think of.

I have now installed TWO different Airport Extreme cards (A1026) in an
early G5 tower (2.0GHz DP/PCI-X, or PowerMac 7,2).
Unfortunately, the Mac cannot "see" either of them. If I go into Network
Diagnostics, "AirPort" is greyed-out/not selectable as an option. On "About

I have a beige G3 (G4-accelerated) hooked up to my 60" LCD-TV as a

supply, stating that such a power supply is compatible with the Mystic

for family, one 350 slot-loaded and one 500 slot-loaded.

I use Kompozer, too. I only do very simple websites, though (for
myself). Used Adobe Pagemill for years, even after I switched to OS X,
but finally went looking for something that would be as simple to use
as Pagemill, but OS X native.
Still prefer Pagemill, but for a free product, Kompozer fits
I'd try the following hardware tests in this order (from least costly
to most costly):
1. PRAM Battery
2. Power Supply
3. Processor

Yes, single-processor Macs can be upgraded to be DP machines,
especially with the third-party cards out there from Sonnet, Other

problem. Also, it tends to stay on most of the time. We still use it
to drive a scanner and to run the occasional Classic application when

If that's Apple's reasoning, I think I would've preferred a fourth RAM
slot instead of a fourth PCI.
Of course, at that time, Apple probably saw no need for anyone to use
more than 1.5GB of RAM.
